Scouting Report

Horn has been one of the buzzier names in California this spring. His tools across the board continue to tick up, and now he's being talked about as a potential top 50 pick.

At the plate, Horn sets up from a tall, narrow base, using a simple, compact left handed swing to make hard contact. He's solid from a bat-to-ball perspective, although the strikeouts have been a slight issue so far. There's bat speed and exit velocities to project on above average power, but Horn can tend to hit the ball on the ground at times. It's still a swing and approach that should allow him to do some damage to his pullside when he gets the barrel out in front. Horn is an excellent athlete who has played basketball for his high school in the past. The run tool has ticked up this spring, and Horn is now a plus runner who can impact the game with his legs.

Horn looks to have improved defensively, and now will likely get a chance to start off pro ball at the shortstop position. He has crisp footwork and a plus arm across the diamond. If forced over to third base, he's got a chance to be an above average or better defender. As most commited to Stanford, Horn's signability will need to be watched close to draft day.
