Watters is a broad, barrel-chested athlete with huge physical tools. He transferred from Notre Dame to LSU following two standout years with the fighting Irish.
Watters has brutish bat speed from the left side of the plate, with an approach to where he's looking to do damage whenever he swings the bat. Watters can uncork on a baseball, turning tight through the zone, shifting his weight through the hitting zone and putting all his force into the baseball. It's a loud operation at times, but when Watters connects, the ball goes a long way. Watters is an aggressive hitter who routinely has run high chase rates in college. He still has the impressive hand-eye coordination to fend off pitches outside of the zone and in two-strike counts, something that allowed him to maintain a strikeout rate under 15% throughout his first two years at Notre Dame. Watters uses the whole field and will flash monstrous raw power to the opposite field at times. He'll need to lean how the use the pull-side to a greater extent in-order to maximize his power production, with a greater emphasis on back spinning the baseball to right field in the future. Watters doesn't struggle against left-handed pitching.
With how physical the frame already is, Watters may be on a trajectory to where he'll be forced to play first-base in the future, though he has handled a corner outfield role well so far. The bat will be the calling card.
