Bowen was undoubtedly one of the best high school bats in the country this past summer. He hit an astounding .364 across 113 plate appearences, showcasing some of the loudest physical traits in the entire class, and noticeable jumps in his overall game.
Bowen certainty looks the part. It's a big, physical 6 foot 3 linebacker frame with huge strength spread throughout. At the plate, Bowen boasts plus raw power, showcasing some of the better exit velocities in the class. It's immense bat speed from the right side of the plate. This is a guy who with the right development could turn into a 30+ homerun bat at the next level. Over the last calendar year, Bowen’s hit tool and approach have both made major strides. He's refined his approach and is chasing pitches outside the zone at a less frequent rate, along with posting well improved bat to ball metrics. Both these have resulted in a huge cut down on strikeouts, along with an uptick of in-game production.
While Bowen lacks the long track record of hitting like some of his peers, his loud summer showing simply can't be ignored. At his best, Bowen looked like a scary hit/power combo. Overall, it’s a budding offensive profile, and what looks like one of the more impactful prep bats in the class.
In the outfield, Bowen will more than likely get a shot to play center field at the next level. He's got what some consider 70 grade arm strength, getting into the high 90's, and consistently turns in plus run times. He will have to mantain his athleticism, but Bowen has the tools to profile in center field long term. Bowen's loud summer has launched him into first round range, as the tools and rapid hit tool improvements have scouts buzzing about the potential final product.
