Scouting Report

A breakout star this past year at Notre Dame, Tinney has quickly established himself as one of the more prolific power hitters in the country. He's headed to the university of Texas this year, where he'll look to elevate his stock even higher.

At the plate, Tinney possesses legitimate raw power. His max and 90th percentile rival anyone in the country, and he's shown feel to lift the ball to his pull side. It's clearly some of the better power in the class, and Tinney could be a guy that runs into 30+ homeruns per year. The hit tool, at this point, is the clear main flaw in Tinney's offensive profile. He posted a whiff rate of 30.6% in 2025, and his swing isn't the most adjustable to breaking balls. Tinney will need to prove that he can hit SEC pitching if he hopes to become a first round pick. He's relatively patient at the plate despite the swing and miss, and he'll walk at a high clip running above average chase rates. Tinney is a well below average runner, not adding a ton of value there, but the calling card here will definitely be in the power.

Behind the plate, Tinney has a cannon of an arm. It's easily plus arm strength, however, the other parts of his defensive profile will need some work. Tinney struggles to get out of crouch, and as a larger backstop, there will always be lingering questions about how he profiles defensively further down the line. Tinney has the ceiling of a first round pick should he sure up some of the hit tool concerns and improve his athleticism.
