CJ Wall may quietly be one of the best hitters in this year’s draft class. It feels like he has done nothing but hit throughout his time on the amateur circuit, building as distinguished a track record as you’ll find for a player who has embraced every opportunity to get at-bats during his summer stints.
At the plate, Wall features active hands with natural rhythm in the box. He syncs his load with a prominent leg kick, coiling well into his back hip and transferring weight efficiently through contact. Wall creates strong hip-shoulder separation, unleashing a heavy barrel as he turns through the zone. While his approach generally leans toward the middle of the field, he displays an excellent ability to react to velocity on the inner third. Wall's pitch selection and strike-zone discipline stand out, as does his knack for battling deep into counts and spoiling tough two-strike pitches. It’s an easy above-average hit tool projection at this point in time.
Defensively, Wall has logged time across a myriad of positions, spending the majority of his reps behind the plate where he displays average arm strength. He has also seen action in a corner outfield spot. Wall is an average runner, but regardless of where the defensive profile ultimately settles, you are paying a premium for the bat.
