Scouting Report

Dylan Seward comes with some of the most exciting tools on both sides of the ball that the 2027 MLB Draft has to offer. It's hard to find a player in this high school class that checks as many boxes.

Starting with maybe the most explosive part of his game, Seward has the chance to be a true 80-grade runner with some of the most electric straight line speed you'll find in the country. Seward has clocked 60-yard dash times under 6.10 seconds, putting him in near elite territory compared to the rest of his peers. At least at these early stages, Seward is the fastest high school player in the 2027 class. Seward's force plate testing similarly tends to rank towards the top of whichever event he attends. He is simply an elite athlete.

Unlike most who attempt it, Seward is a legitimate switch-hitter with a picturesque stroke from both sides of the plate. Seward simply looks like a hitter when he steps in the box, with a short, quick move to the baseball. He puts up quality at bats and shortens up to a wide stance with 2 strikes. While not a pure bat-to-ball artist, Seward does feature an extensive track record of performance both on the summer circuit and against top-notch high school competition out in California. He can flash some swing-and-miss when he expands the zone, but It's still at least an above-average hit tool at this stage. Despite not being the most bulky, muscular guy on the field, Seward has started to flash legitimate impact as he's continued to get stronger. He's got effortless bat speed from both sides of the plate, tending to loft the ball better as a lefty where he'll likely do most of his slugging damage in the future.

Seward truly shines at the shortstop position. He's an incredibly fluid, athletic defender with quick hands and dynamic range. It's above-average arm strength across the diamond. With the way Seward operates on the dirt it's easy to envision a future plus defensive shortstop, maybe better. Seward is on a top-5 pick type trajectory.
