Eric Becker
Scouting Report
Becker is a long and projectable 6 foot 3 shortstop that has been one of the more consistent college bats in the country over the course of the last two years. He's a .366 career hitter in college, and there's a strong balance of tools throughout the profile to like.
Becker has great feel for the barrel. He'll use a simple, balanced left handed swing in order to make consistent contact to all parts of the field. Despite hitting for a high average, Becker's contact rates are closer to average but the quality of that contact really stands out amongst his pears. Becker hasn't been much of a homerun threat in college, still yet to surpass the mark of 10 in a year and mainly sticking to a gap to gap approach. The barrel rates and exit velocities however, point to a guy who could end up growing into above average power as he's able to leverage the ball more in the air.
Becker plays shortstop currently, but most think he'll end up moving over to third as he continues to fill out his frame. There's an above average arm and solid range that will help him profile best there in the future. Becker is one of the safer college bats in the class, as there is a long track record of hitting against top level competition and a swing that should translate well to pro ball. He's positioned himself into first round range at this point in the process and will have every chance at Virginia to continue boosting his stock.
