Dempsey is one of the rare legitimate two-way prospects in college baseball. While it's looking more and more likely that the arm will be what gets him payed, there's no denying the raw talent here on both sides of the ball. Dempsey owns a career batting average well north of .300.
Off the mound is where most see Dempsey ending up long-term. The stuff has taken a major step forward in 2026, the fastball is now up to 96 mph and living in the low 90's comfortably. Coming from a flatter VAA, the pitch absolutely feasts at the top of the zone. One thing that hasen't changed from last year is that Dempsey can spin the hell out of a breaking ball. His curveball routinely registers spin rates in the 3100-3200 range, sitting in the mid 70's. A firmer low 80's slider also grabs high spin rates with more of a sweepy shape. Dempsey also can mix in a changeup, though he uses it less.
Overall, this is a really fun package. It's unique release and spin traits and stuff that continues to tick up. Whether teams think Dempsey can start or not will determine where his value lies, though he's done a really solid job of working deep into outings so far in 2026. It's clear day one potential.
