Scouting Report

A prep southpaw out of Florida powerhouse Stoneman Douglas, Rojas has one of the scarier upsides out of any arm in the entire draft class. It's an uber projectable starter frame, as Rojas stands at 6 foot 4 195 lbs, with a long, lean, athletic look about him. On the mound, the movement patterns are silky smooth, as Rojas gets down the mound extremely well, and uses a free and loose arm swing to get to a low 3 quarters slot.

It's effortless velocity, as Rojas can touch 98 mph with his fastball, regularly sitting in the mid 90's. The fastball plays up because of the tough angle Rojas creates with his slot, along with generating spin rates north of 2600 rpms. Rojas pairs his fastball with a slider and a changeup, which both flash plus potential. The slider is the one he throws the most, as it sits in the high 70's getting into the low 80's with high spin rates and sweepy shape. It's a plus offering that should only improve with some added velocity. The changeup sits in the low 80's, and shows good fading action of his fastball, he doesn't have to throw it often, but it shows the makings of becoming at least an above average offering as it dives below bats with significant speed differential off his fastball.

The control was touch and go this summer, but Rojas showed strong command throughout the spring, which scouts fully expect him to return to. As if the profile couldn't get any better, Rojas fields his position extremely well. He's one of the better athletes you'll see step on a mound. Rojas could end up being the first arm off the board with a strong spring.
