Scouting Report

A well known prep name out of Texas, Emerson has sat atop the 2026 class for quite some time. While most prospects with that kind of early hype eventually suffer from “prospect fatigue,” Emerson just keeps getting better and better. The tools continue to blossom, and he’s now showing hints at legitimate five tool upside.

Emerson’s left handed swing is extremely smooth and easy. He sets up from a wider base, striding forward and dropping a heavy barrel through the zone. He can tend to roll over at times, but Emerson does a relatively good job of using the pull side to his advantage. Emerson has a calm, collected way about him at the plate. It's extremely mature takes and a willingess to take what he's served.

The hit tool is what everybody talks about with Emerson, and for good reason. It's one of the more distinguished in the prep class, backed by a long track record of performance against top of the class competition. Emerson simply just hasn't looked over matched against high level pitching so far. The power has ticked up quickly as well, as Emerson shows off plus bat speed, and some leverage to the pull side especially. While homeruns are yet to decorate the baseball card, most think Emerson should have no trouble growing into 20+ homerun output, potentially more as he continues to fill into his frame. Emerson has a chance to age into a special hitter if it can all click, a true hit and power threat.

Defensively, Emerson has fully addressed the concerns of him sticking at shortstop as he now showcases plus arm strength across the diamond, solid range and a strong internal clock on top of being a plus runner. Most think he could end up a plus glove at third base, but he's got a strong chance to develop into at least and above average shortstop long term. Emerson's combination of tools and polish make him one of the top prep bats in the entire draft class, and somebody who will more than likely contend for the number one overall selection come draft day.
