Hunter Dietz
Scouting Report
Dietz hasn't spent a ton of time on the field so far throughout his collegiate career due to injuries, only logging a total of 1.2 innings pitched across 2 years. While the limited baseball card may seem immediately unatractive, with a strong fall, Dietz is being talked about as a potential top lefthander in the class.
Dietz's carrying trait will be the fastball. It's a pitch that regularly sits in the low to mid 90's, getting up to 98 with absurd backspin and carry from an over the top arm slot. The pitch feasts at the top of the zone, although with an efforty delivery he can show limited feel for locating the pitch. Dietz's best secondary is an upper 70's curveball that posseses solid shape and flashed above average this fall. He's also started to encorporate a cutter, more of a bridge offering that plays well of the fastball. Dietz also throws a changeup, but shows limited feel for the pitch.
It's a tough profile to evaluate considering the sample size, but the stuff is extremely intruiging. Dietz will likely get an opportunity as the Sunday starter at Arkansas, and could see a meteoric rise up draft boards if it can all come together. Still, the limited track record and injury history will likely be a glaring hole is the profile.
