Landon Thome
Scouting Report
Son of MLB hall of famer Jim Thome, Landon was a huge riser up rankings this summer, showing off an advanced offensive profile that teams will covet.
At the plate, Thome has a calm nature about how he hits. It's a smooth and relaxed left handed swing with present feel for the barrel and lifting the ball to the pull side. He's an advanced hitter, showing feel for the strike zone and there's torque and bat speed here that suggest Thome could grow into above average power in the future as he continues to mature. It's an area in his game that has seen a huge uptick over the course of the last calendar year, as he's shown added leverage in his swing, allowing him to show that power off in game frequently. The upside at the dish will be what drives Thome's profile for the time being.
In the infield, Thome shows off soft hands and solid footwork but his fringy arm strength will likely help him profile best at second base in the future. Thome has generated a ton of hype headed into the spring, as he's a name that could draw huge day one interest come the draft.
