Garcia transferred from Texas Tech to the University of Texas following a breakout season where he was named a NCBWA Freshman All-American.
Garcia will ultimately get paid because of the bat. It's a fun combination of hand-eye coordination and bat speed, even if the puzzle pieces haven't fully aligned in college yet. Garcia is an aggressive swinger who has routinely run high swing/chase rates. It's hurt his ability to walk much at the college level, though he's still maintained healthy strikeout rates. Garcia adjusts incredibly well on pitches outside the strike-zone and battles when behind in counts. He ran a contact rate north of 85% in 2-strike counts his freshman year. Garcia posts the exciting exit velocities that you would expect for someone with his 6-foot-5, 218 pound frame. It may be plus raw power, it just hasn't shown up in-game. Garcia hits a ton of line drives, but little to no fly balls. His feel for lifting and pulling the baseball in the air is below average. The traits are here, Garcia just has to improve his batted ball profile to get the most out of them.
Garcia will almost certainly shift off to third base in professional baseball given his size, though for the time being he's a solid athlete at shortstop with arm strength fit for the left side of the infield.
