Hughes transfered from Stetson to Texas Tech after his freshman year, and has immediately established himself as one of the more complete hitters in the country. It's a hit/power combination that you could argue is one of the best in all of college baseball.
From the left side, Hughes shows innate feel to put the barrel on the ball with a simple left-handed swing that can adjust well to pitches in all quadrants. Hughes is a polished hitter who has improved his understanding of the strikezone over the course of his college career. It's above-average bat-to-ball skills, with favorable chase rates that have allowed Hughes to walk at a healthy clip.
Hughes has legitimate bat speed, and looks like the type of slugger who could grow in to 25+ home run output at the next level. While his feel for pulling and lifting the baseball has never been elite, Hughes has the type of feel for the barrel that allows him to leave the yard to any part. He's been well known as a guy who will deposit a pitch left on the outer half, while also being able to turn tight and quick on a pitch thrown towards the inner half.
Hughes is pretty physically maxed out, standing at 5-11 202 lbs. He's seen time both in the outfield and at first base while at Texas Tech, likely a left fielder at the next level. The bat will do a lot of the heavy lifting. It's an extremely similar profile to 2025 A's second round pick Devin Taylor, and Hughes, at this point in the process, looks like he could be an even better hitter than Taylor was in college.
