Noah Wilson
Scouting Report
Wilson absolutely exploded on to the summer circuit after missing most of the spring, opening eyes and generating more buzz than any prospect in the country, while he cooled off towards the back end of the summer, the raw tools here are undeniable.
Wilson might be the twitchiest athlete in the class, easily said. It's comfortably 70 grade speed, as Wilson will fly around the bases, posting some of the better baserunning times in the class. At the plate, Wilson's bat speed is electric. He get's deep into scapular retraction, cocking his back elbow up before letting his hands fly through the zone. Wilson's swing can get sweep at times, as sometimes he'll load his hands late causing some swing and miss which has been the main concern in his profile to this point. It's below average bat to ball skills, although it feels like Wilson hits the ball hard when he does make contact. The strikeouts will need to be closely monitored throughout the spring. Wilson will times show some of what he's capable in the power department, flashing exit velocities north of 105 mph, and strong distance figures, however he's hitting the ball on the ground a ton, limiting his ability to get to the raw power. There's so much upside in this offensive profile, a guy who could grow into 20+ homerun output along with blazing speed and a quick left handed stroke, but also present risks that teams will have to weigh heavily next summer.
Wilson is a solid defender, as his speed and athleticism help him cover a ton of ground in the outfield. He looks like he could handle center field, although fringy arm strength may ultimately move him to left when forced off by a stronger defender. Wilson's athleticism and high upside traits make him one of the more intriguing prep bats in the class, and there's no doubt early day one potential with a guy with these types of athletic tools.
