A draft-eligible sophomore for the 2027 MLB Draft, Johnson is a pesty, top-of-the-order table setter with the type of profile you'd expect from a speedy, 5-foot-9 outfielder. He slaps the ball around the yard and puts the game in motion, looking to do damage with his 70-grade legs. Johnson bursts quickly out of the box, and will routinely beat out ground balls and take the extra base on balls in the gap. He is an athlete with a quick-twitch nature to his game.
At the dish, Johnson has a slightly open set up with higher hands, hovering with a leg kick in order to time up. It’s a flatter path and a clear emphasis at putting bat on the ball. Johnson has routinely run high contact rates throughout his college career paired with a miniscule strikeout rate. Johnson also doesn’t expand the zone much and keeps his chase rates in check. It’s already a remarkably polished offensive profile. For the time being it’s 30-grade power projection, and Johnson doesn’t figure to slug much at the next level.
Johnson will almost certainly man center field for the Wolfpack in 2027 after being forced off to a corner with Ty Head flanking his left this past year. He’s got the range and instincts to stick there at the next level, and there are people who think it could end up being an above-average glove.
