The premier Canadian pitching prospect in this years class, Duncan's projectability and feel to pitch really stand out. While Tommy John surgery at the end of his spring season has led to some skepticism on where he might end up on draft day, Duncan has flashes when healthy where he looked like a first-round pick.
Duncan is a free and easy mover on the mound. He get's to a high three quarters slot where he generates great extension on all his pitches from a unique angle, allowing them to play up. It's a 4 pitch mix with considerable upside. Duncan will sit in the low 90's getting up to 97 mph with his fastball. There's strong carry to the offering, and he'll blow it by hitters at the top rail. There's a low 80's slider that has ticked up over the course of the past year as well. It's a tight offering that plays well off his fastball. While he'll hang the pitch at times, there's above average potential here. Duncan also features a firmer changeup that will sit in in the 85-87 range. It's got strong fading life, and has shown to be extremely effective against right handers.
Duncan will be a definite name to watch in the spring. He left a strong final impression on the summer circuit, and should he see another uptick in stuff, there is a chance for him to be an early day one pick. Duncan will also be young for the class, as he'll be 18 and 1 month on draft day.
