Phelps was a draft-eligible sophmore in 2025 and was a projected top 50 pick headed into the year. A down year offensively aswell as some questions on where his future defensive home lies led him back to Georgia as a Junior. Back in Athens, Phelps has become one of the best hitters in the SEC in 2026 and has now firmly put himself on the map as a potential day one selection.
Phelps has put up a strong slashline all three years in college. He owns average bat-to-ball skills, but his swing decisions can at times be a bit questionable. He chooses to be a bit of a free-swinger early in counts but can lock up with 2 strikes. These issues have hurt his ability to walk at a high clip so far in college. Phelps has solid raw power with plenty of bat speed and a clear understanding of how to get the baseball in the air.
The biggest question at this stage with Phelps is in the long-term defensive home. He has played all over for Georgia so far throughout his college career, but that's not really a good thing. He doesn't really have a clear landing spot at the next level. At the end of the day, he probably ends up at first base or at a corner outfield spot when it's all said and done.
