Ostergard fits the label of a "gamer" in that you can tell that he plays the game hard and he plays the game to win. Scouts got a good look at Ostergard when they went in to evaluate his former high school teammate, Taj Marchand, who would go on to get selected 33rd overall by the Rays in the 2026 Draft.
Ostergard has a strong, muscular 6 foot frame with present athleticism and good force plate data. He's a bouncy defender at shortstop with solid range and above-average arm strength that plays on the left side of the infield.
At the plate, Ostergard has a level swing from the right side with solid feel for the barrel. He can be an aggressive hitter, but he makes plenty of contact and displays solid feel for driving balls in the gap. Ostergard can have some stiffness in his swing and will struggle with adjusting to breaking balls off the plate at times. For the time being its fringe-average power projection, and Ostergard looks relatively filled out from a body perspective.
You're dreaming on a future shortstop with an above-average hit tool if you're bullish on the profile. Ostergard is commited to the University of North Carolina.
